General Basics

Important Rules

Establish your base

First rule of Kajukenryu - If you don’t have a solid base you’ll be off balance and nothing will work.

Create distance

Second rule of Kajunkenryu - Get away from the attacker

Control, disarm, technique

Your first priority in an attack is to control whatever weapon an attacker may have. Second, disarm the attacker and third, run your technique to dispose of the threat.

Strike high/Check low & Strike low/Check high

Anytime you strike an attacker high you must check for a low counter by the attacker. Same goes for when you strike low make sure you check high. The leg, arm, or hand doesn’t matter as long as your vital areas aren’t exposed to the attacker.

The 3 Stages of Learning

Embryonic

You know nothing about Kajukenryu and are just beginning to learn the basic steps involved in techniques.

Mechanical

You understand the mechanics of performing techniques, but not necessarily the flow between techniques and you are not yet able to react instinctively to an attack.

Spontaneous

You understand both the mechanics of performing techniques and how they flow together. You properly react to an attack without thinking.

Power Principles

Marriage of Gravity

We have it whenever we sink or when all our force is going down. Marriage of Gravity is essentially Back-up Mass moving in a straight line downward.

Torque

Provides more power - To get torque something must twist or rotate.

Back-up Mass

Putting your entire body into a move. We have Back-up Mass whenever we’re moving in a straight line, this puts your entire body into a particular movement. Back-up Mass is essentially Marriage of Gravity on a horizontal plane.

WHAT IS KAJUKENRYU?

After spending 25 years in the arts and law enforcement studying the effectiveness of techniques in real life situations many times from his own altercations Mr. Green spent 5 years developing a system that deals directly with the bare bones of effective street defense. No one technique works for everyone therefore this system offers a variety of techniques to end the fight in what ever way works best for you or best suites the situation legally and effectively.

Based on the practical application of self-defense techniques combining Kenpo, Judo, Jui-Jitsu, Defense Tactics, and Karate simply stated Kajukenryu is designed to work. In order to achieve power the Kajukenryu stylist starts by relaxing the muscles. The arms and legs move much faster when relaxed than when they are tense. Then just prior to contact the muscles exert their entire force. As a result, the student trained in the art of Kajukenryu is capable of creating tremendous power. Of course, being powerful is good but if you are beat to the punch all is lost.

In order to achieve the greatest speed possible the Kajukenryu stylist conserves motion/time. Motion and time are conserves in three major ways. First, movements are direct, unnecessary cocking or winding up motion is eliminated. Second, at the advanced stage the “ands” are eliminated. Instead of blocking “and” striking the defense and offense occur simultaneously. In other words, we strike “with” our block. Third, by combining several strikes into one basic motion combinations of multiple strikes become much faster.

During the early stages of Kajukenryu training considerable attention is given to pre-set sequences. This develops the student’s coordination and builds confidence. At the advanced level the student becomes able to express him/her self extemporaneously, this is to alter the technique sequence at will. The end result is the development of a martial artist who is fast, powerful, and is capable of defending themselves if the need arises.

Thoughts to Remember

The person who knows “how” will always be a student, but the person who knows “why” will continue to be the instructor.

To hear is to doubt, to see is to be deceived, but to feel is to believe.

Whether it’s a big ship or a small ship, the same size hole placed correctly in the hull can sink it.

Fair play is when your opponent’s definition of fair play is equally matched with yours
